The M52 TU engine is installed in the E46 in two displacement versions, the 2.8 liter for the 328 and the 2.5 liter for the 323. The engine incorporates several new features that allow it to conform to LEV regulation for emission control. These changes will be covered in the engine/management section of this program.

The engine management system is the Siemens MS 42 system that also conforms to LEV requirements. This system will also be covered in the engine management section.
